All Hallows' Eve

For as long as I can remember I have loved Halloween. As a little girl I remember my mom and dad dressing my sister and I up to take us out trick-or-treating. I loved the idea of being able to transform into something completely different for one night. If it was a gypsy, sailor, skunk, batman, pirate or princess I was always able to take on the personality of that character.
Being a creative person at heart is why I think Halloween resonates so much with me. Everything about it is out of the ordinary and creative. From carving pumpkins, to decorating your home to look like the nearby grave yard, or transforming yourself into a zombie from Walking Dead it all requires you to look outside the box and become a little imaginative.

Even though I have always loved Halloween I really discover a love for it the first time I went to Mexico. I loved how the dark and ominous feeling was replaced by beautifully coloured sugar skulls, bundles upon bundles of flowers and an overall joyous feeling. The Day of the Dead showed me a totally different perspective and gave me a different outlook on how death should be celebrated.

As a teenager I was all about having the prettiest costume, but as I have gotten older I have started to branch away from that. I would rather be a rotting zombie than a fairy because I can look pretty every other day of the year so why not try and look a little creepy!

What do you plan on being for Halloween?

Happy Haunting!

Night to Myself

Tonight I was lucky enough to have a few hours to myself as Steven and both our dad’s headed into town to watch a Junior Hockey game. In Saskatoon I lived by myself for a few years and now that I live with Steven I do not get as much time to myself so I really try to enjoy it when I do.

I was also able to spend a couple hours with my mom. It is nice to get together with her every now and then and catch up on how each other are doing. Even though we live a few blocks from each other we sometimes have a hard time making time for a good chat.

One thing that I find really relaxing is doing my nails. I have never been a girl for going to get my nails done as I quite enjoy doing it myself. It allows me to take an hour or so to just relax. I usually end up catching up on You Tube videos or watching a movie.

It was nice to have a few hours to just catch up on me and have a little alone time to pamper myself.

How do you like to pamper yourself?

Hope you all had a fantastic night,

Finding Happiness

As of lately, I have hit a cross roads about what I would like to do with my life. My temporary job is ending soon and I need to find something else, but figuring out what that is a little harder than I had initially though.

Recently I was reading a blog online, Oh She Glows, and came across one of her posts where she talks about how she graduated with a Undergrad and went on to get her Masters but all along the way something didn’t feel  right. Like I have said in previous posts, I think all things happen for a reason and maybe I was meant to stumble onto her blog and read this article about careers when I am in the middle of trying to figure out where I want to go with my life.
On her blog she posted this quote which really stuck with me:

"The work you do while you procrastinate is probably the work you should be doing for the rest of your life." -Jessica Hische
It definitely made me think about what things make me happy when I have nothing else to think about. What types of things do I like to do when I am bored and have nothing else to do?

I have always been a very creative person. As a child I had a wild imagination and would make up elaborate stories while playing. As I grew older my imagination turned to paper and I started to excel at drawing. To my parents this was probably extremely surprising as they were told on numerous occasions that my drawing was unique to say the least. Regardless, the older I got the more I was drawn to the subject. I loved how techniques allowed you to bring more texture, depth, and light into a drawing. How mixing certain colours brought life to a piece of work.
As I got older school, work and jobs got in the way of drawing and since then I haven’t drawn much at all but it has revealed that I have a love for makeup. Makeup at its core is everything that I had fallen in love with as a child. It is like paint, charcoal, pastels, it is another medium used to create.

I love how with certain products you can totally transform a face to look completely different as if to morph yourself to look like someone else, or you can use it to enhance your best features while hiding things that may be a trouble area for you.
I know makeup may not be something I can committee to full time or something that will be a realistic job in the future. But I am starting to think that something that has more of a creative outlet might be something for me. I love the knowledge I gained from going to University and obtaining my Bachelor of Commerce, but for someone like me that environment sometimes feels quiet suffocating.

I am starting to learn that no matter what you need to pursue things that make you happy. Life is short so why waste it doing something you do not love.

Till next time,

23rd Birthday

Last week I celebrated my 23rd birthday spending the weekend in Saskatoon with close friends and an awesome birthday supper with family. To say I was spoiled is an understatement. Not only was I given some great gifts but to be able to spend time with people who are so important to me is just as valuable. To me birthday's aren't just about the things you receive, they are more about being able to spend some quality time with people who mean the most to you!
